DO SOMETHING!
LIZ'S STORY
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
DO SOMETHING!

Alleviating poverty seems like such a daunting thing.  Occasionally I've dug into my pocket and donated to help people in dire circumstances.   But I have this nagging feeling that, as useful as my gifts have been, they're just helping people survive, not to move forward with their lives.

The Eagles wrote a song that has always inspired me, especially when I'm in a funk.  Here are a few lines....

Don't leave it up for someone else

Don't feel sorry for yourself

Why don't you  Do something?

At Support Connections of Lebanon County (SCLC) we are doing something longer term with lasting results for the low income families in our program (Team leaders).  We're building supportive relationships that help them build skills, establish goals and make progress in moving toward self-sufficiency.

YOU could DO SOMETHING to address poverty directly as a supportive friend (a Team Mate) of one of these families.

LIZ'S STORY

She's making a difference!

Liz Lingle of Annville is enthusiastic about her role as a Team Mate. " I am so inspired by these individuals and their families. Having been part of the training program that began in October, I've learned a lot myself.   I've had periods of poverty in my own life, and these are exactly the skills that helped my family and me. It's fulfilling to support these folks as they develop plans for a brighter future."

HOW TO DO SOMETHING - VOLUNTEER

Help like Liz as a Team Mate, or in some other way.

SCLC is looking for ten volunteers willing to join a family on their journey toward self-sufficiency.   As Team Mates, these individuals will walk alongside the program's low-income participants (Team Leaders) and their families.
Four weeks of Team Mate training will begin on Tuesday February 21st. Then two or three Team Mates will be matched with each Team Leader to form support teams.   After the matching process is complete, support teams will meet together twice a month moving forward. Training will take place beginning with dinner at 5:30pm at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, ending at 8 pm, each Tuesday from Feb 21st through March 14th, 2017.

To volunteer or to find out more about being a Team Mate at Support Connections, contact Lee Smedley at 610-914-3846 or smedleylee@gmail.com . Learn more about SCLC at www.sclclebco.org or their FaceBook page. Volunteers are also needed for childcare and meal preparation.
